What is Autoimmune Disease?
An autoimmune disease is a condition in which your immune system attacks your body. The immune systems normal process is to protect Your body from foreign bacteria and viruses. When your body recognizes these cells that should not be there the immune system send out fighter cells to attack these foreign substances. Normally, the immune system can tell the difference between foreign cells and your own cells. In an autoimmune disease, the immune system mistakes part of your body, typically your joints or skin, as foreign. It releases proteins called autoantibodies that will attack healthy cells.
